Today, Mecosta County is a hub for recreation and education. Ferris State University, located in the county seat of Big Rapids has one of the top pharmacy schools in the country. With almost 10,000 college students in this rural community, Big Rapids has also earned the reputation as “tubing capital” of Michigan.
Education and recreation provide economic stability to the area which thrives on the many hunters, fisherman, canoists and kayaker’s that visit the area.
